You can prepare for the fair by visiting the Clarion CareerLink at 22 South Second Avenue. Information and assistance is available for individuals seeking help with resume writing and interview preparation. Please make sure you are registered with the Career:Link to ensure that you are eligible for all available jobs since some employers hire only through the CareerLink. You can register either at the CareerLink or online at their website. There will also be computers available at the Job Fair for registration.

Each employer participating in the fair will have a table to meet with candidates and provide information.  Listed below are some tips for preparing for the job fair: 

Know why you are attending the job fair  

  • To establish contacts with employers

  • To gather employer information

  • To learn about job opportunities

Know why employers go to job fairs

  • To provide job information to interested candidates

  • To make contacts with prospective new employees

  • To increase awareness of their organizations

  • To fill existing job vacancies

What to do prior to the job fair

  • Check here for a current list of participating organizations.

  • Choose the employers in which you are most interested.

  • Research the selected organizations if possible.

  • Fill out the Generic Job Application and make multiple copies

  • Clarify your own career goals so that you can effectively communicate them to an employer.

  What to take with you to the job fair

  •  A pen and paper for notes

  • Multiple copies of your resume

  • Multiple copies of your completed job application

  • A folder or portfolio to organize materials

Present yourself effectively

  • First impressions count!  Keep in mind the type of position and organization to which you are applying and dress appropriately.

  • State your name.

  • Offer the recruiter a copy of your resume.

  • Ask about career opportunities with the organization.

  • Tell the employer about the skills that you have to offer.

  • When appropriate, display your knowledge of the organization and ask relevant questions.

  • Be enthusiastic, interested and confident at all times.

  • Avoid discussing salary and benefits, and focus on what you can do for the organization.

  • Take brief notes after meeting with the employer, including important information you have gathered about the organization.

  • Get a business card and take a copy of any literature.

Follow up after the fair

·        Send a brief thank-you note, especially if you are interested in the organization. Reiterate your interest in the organization and the position, and enclose another copy of your resume.
